Bizarre Overheard Conversation Of The Day
Location: riding up one of the chairlifts on Blackcomb
Conversation Topic: some older skiers on the chairlift noticed that each chair had a big hook on the back and they were wondering what purpose the hook served. They were coming up with a range of possibilities before one of them mentioned that maybe it was for mothers up skiing with baby baskets to hang the basket from.
Upon Further Review: as I usually try hard to ignore the idiotic ramblings of chairlift companions, it took me a moment to truly comprehend the monstrous foolishness of this concept. Essentially, Random Old Skier Guy is envisioning a scenario where there are a large number of moms who want to ski but are unable to find suitable babysitters. So they bring their infants up the mountain with them. And are carrying the little tykes in a basket. And when it comes time to sit on the chairlift, they’re hanging the babies in the baskets off the backs of the chairlifts. And that there are enough mothers out doing this that the ski resort had to install hooks on the back of each chairlift.
I try to avoid laughing at the foolish of others directly to their face, but this concept is just a wee bit interesting. Plus at no extra charge, it’s also a little sexist – after all, they only see the need for mothers but not fathers to be hanging baby baskets on the back of the chair lift. After all, daddy worked hard to pay for the family ski vacation and he’s not going to be slowed down all day long by his wife skiing slowly while carrying a baby basket.
Thank you, random stranger, for brightening up my day with your views on family recreation.
WTF Factor: Let's go with a 6 out of 10.
